    On May 15, 2023, the NYSSPS sent a letter to New York State Legislators urging them to reject this legislation granting prescriptive authority to the profession of psychology, which we believe poses a serious threat to the health and safety of mentally ill patients receiving or requiring psychotropic and other medications as a critical component of their treatment and continuity of care.

    In conjunction with the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) and other specialty societies, the NYSSPS signed a letter asking Gov. Hochul to sign S2121-C (Rivera)/A289-C (Gottfried) to amend the public health law and the insurance law in relation to enhancing coverage and care for medically fragile children.

    An ACT to amend the insurance law and the public health law, in relation to providing coverage and information on chest wall reconstruction surgery after a mastectomy or partial mastectomy. Click here to view the signed letter.

    UPDATE: On October 13, 2022, Governor Hochul signed legislation to aid breast cancer survivors during their recovery. Legislation (A.8537/S.7881) ensures that breast cancer survivors who choose reconstructive surgery after a mastectomy have proper insurance coverage. For more information, click here.
